Something doesn't work?

  • The Num lock should always be enabled. If it is disabled when you are attempting an alt code, it may cause errors or unexpected results in some applications. For example, Alt+4 could be interpreted as Alt +, ← which causes the browser to go back if the Num lock is disabled.
  • If your laptop keyboard doesn't have a separate NumPad, you should hold FN button with Alt button while typing the code.
  • This method does not work for Linux system, but it is possible to use Unicode.

About I with accent

The accented I letter Í, í (i-acute), is a letter found in various languages, such as Hungarian, Icelandic, Faroese, Czech, Tatar, and Slovak. In those languages, the letter i with accent often indicates a long /i/ vowel (such as "ee" in the English word "feel"). The accented "i" letter also appears in Irish, Catalan, Italian, Spanish, Galician, Occitan, Navajo, Portuguese, Leonese, and Vietnamese languages, as an alternative of the letter "i." In Latin, the long "i" ⟨ꟾ⟩ is often used instead of the sign ⟨í⟩ for a long i-vowel.

Another variation of the Latin letter "i" is accented Ì, ì (grave accent) letter. That version of the Latin letter is mainly used in the "ISO 9:1995" system of the Ukrainian transliteration as the Cyrillic letter "І." In the Pinyin system of the Chinese romanization, the accented letter ì is an "i" with a falling tone. It also appears in Italian, Scottish Gaelic, Ojibwe, Alcozauca Mixtec, Vietnamese, Welsh, Sardinian, Taos, and even in the constructed language known as Na'vi.

ALT Codes for the letter I with accent

The below-listed are the ALT codes for the letter "I with accents" or so-called "letter I ALT codes." Note that the accents on the letter "I" are also knowns as diacritics, accent marks, and diacritical marks. How to type I with accent letter in MS word

For users of a Microsoft Office Word document, there is quite a convenient and straightforward way to type the special characters right from the system's tools. You can use the "AutoCorrect Keyboard," specially designed to submit preferred Special Characters in MS documents. You may also use MS Word's autocorrect feature to apply accented letters when you type particular letter combinations automatically.

Open the "Symbols" tool, choose the character for which you want to set up an autocorrect function. Next, click the button "AutoCorrect" at the bottom left. Open the "Replace" box, type the letter, and click the button "Add," then hit the "OK" button. In that case, you ask Word that when you type the letter "i" followed by the accent grave (`) and space, MS Word should automatically replace it with a grave accented letter.

How to use and type I with accent symbol code?

  • If your keyboard contains separate NumPad, you should be sure that it is enabled. If it is not, press the Num Lock key to activate it then press hold down the Alt key on the left side. Type the number that represents that character or the symbol you want to insert and then release the insert key.
  • For example, for the greek letter omega Ω press and hold Alt and the type 0234 and then release.
  • There is another method that works only for word documents. In this method, you should type the characters first then press Alt and X. For example ( 0234 + Alt + X for greek letter omega ).
  • If you have a keyboard that doesn't have NumPad here is what will work for you. Find the Function key ( FN ) then presses and hold the function key while holding press and release Num LK key; then release FN key. This method will activate the numeric keypad in your laptop.
  • Then do the same steps as in the previous example.
  • Notice that in IBM code you don't use 0 (Alt + 255 ) before the code which is different from the windows generator that requires to add 0 (Alt + 0255 ) before the code.
