  • The Num lock should always be enabled. If it is disabled when you are attempting an alt code, it may cause errors or unexpected results in some applications. For example, Alt+4 could be interpreted as Alt +, ← which causes the browser to go back if the Num lock is disabled.
  • If your laptop keyboard doesn't have a separate NumPad, you should hold FN button with Alt button while typing the code.
  • This method does not work for Linux system, but it is possible to use Unicode.

É, é (e-acute) is a letter from the Latin alphabet that was found in Catalan, Afrikaans, Czech, Dutch, Danish, French, Emilian-Romagnol, English, Icelandic, Galician, and Hungarian. Besides, the "e with accent" letter is quite common in the following languages, like Irish, Luxembourgish, Italian, Kashubian, Occitan, Portuguese, Slovak, Navajo, Norwegian, Spanish, Swedish, Welsh, and Vietnamese languages, as a variant of the letter "e," often commonly called "e with an accent."

How to type e with accent

If you want to type the accented letter "e," you can use its Unicode characters. For the capital e with accent letter, you should use the Unicode in decimal or hex, for example, decimal 201; hex U+00C9, and you will see É. The small e with accent letter use decimal 233; or hex U+00E9, and you will see - é.

There are some useful and easy ways to type the letter e with accent in various devices, such as:

  • Microsoft Windows users may type an "é" through Alt+0233 or Alt+130 on the keyboard's numeric pad. The letter e with the accent is typed by pressing the following buttons, such as Alt+144 or Alt+0201.
  • On keyboard layouts of US International and UK English, users can type - "é" by typing the button - AltGR+E. That method is applied to multiple other acute accented letters that do not appear on the standard US English keyboard layout.
  • In MS Word, users may press the button Ctrl+' (apostrophe), then press the letter E or ⇧ Shift+E for "é" or just "É."

How to use and type E with accent symbol code?

  • If your keyboard contains separate NumPad, you should be sure that it is enabled. If it is not, press the Num Lock key to activate it then press hold down the Alt key on the left side.   • Then do the same steps as in the previous example.
  • Notice that in IBM code you don't use 0 (Alt + 255 ) before the code which is different from the windows generator that requires to add 0 (Alt + 0255 ) before the code.
