About the University of Ottawa (uOttawa)
The University of Ottawa also commonly referred to as uOttawa or simply “U of O”, is a bilingual publicly-owned research university based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The main building of uOttawa is situated on 42.5 hectares (around 105 acres) in the middle of Ottawa's Downtown Core, close to the residential neighbourhood of Sandy Hill, and Ottawa's Rideau Canal. In 1848 the U of O was originally founded as the College of Bytown by the 1st bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Ottawa - known as Joseph-Bruno Guigues. The college was placed right under the direction of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate and was renamed the College of Ottawa back in 1861. Approximately five years later through a charter, the College of Ottawa received the status of the university.

The University of Ottawa (uOttawa) is recognized as the largest English-French bilingual university throughout the globe. The uOttawa university provides a wide selection of academic programs, that are administered by ten faculties such as the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine, the Telfer School of Management, the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law, and the University of Ottawa Faculty of Social Sciences. The University of Ottawa Library holds around 12 branches, including a collection of more than 4.5 million titles. The U of O is a part of the Canadian U15 group member of research-intensive universities, together with an overall research income of C$324.581 million accounted for in 2017.
The uOttawa school is co-educational and received approximately 35,000 undergraduate and more than 6,000 post-graduate students per year. The university of Uottawa has launched an app which enables U of O students to quickly access and view upcoming events, assignments, readings, and tests so that they can get ready and decide how to handle their workload. Here are features that the Pulse app provides:

Log in to uottawa bright space
The University of Uottawa (uottawa) provides a virtual space - Brightspace, which allows students to gain access to course websites and all the available e-learning resources with the help of the one-stop sign-in portal. Here are some easy steps to follow:
Step 1 - First of all go to the www uottawa.ca /en /students web page.
Step 2 - Scroll down to the Key Resources area where you will see the button “Log in to Brightspace”.
Step 3 - Click on that button and wait for few seconds to proceed to the next step.
Step 4 - The site will automatically redirect you to a Microsoft Outlook login page. Here you should enter your email address, phone number, or skype name.
Step 5 - Click Next and follow on-screen instructions to gain access to your page.
How to use StudentLabs.uOttawa.ca portal
The uOttawa has a StudentLabs.uOttawa.ca portal which enabled U of O students to use their PCs to gain safe remote access to software and computers from selected university labs. Note that before you log in to your StudentLabts uOttawa portal, you should self-enrol your account for MFA, i.e., Multi-Factor Authentication right before you proceed with secure remote access to University labs. Multi-Factor Authentication is an extra service in the authentication process. MFA validates the identity of each user accessing online apps and systems. It works on these principles, for instance, detects what the user knows (e.g., password), what the user is (e.g., fingerprint or iris), and what the user has (e.g., smartphone, a physical device generating one-time passwords).
MFA is quite easy and convenient to use as the student is using his/her mobile phone, which he/she can access anywhere. The U of O student does not need anymore to have their work email on their smartphone as the MFA only uses that information to get a student’s approval through the app.
It is now possible to gain remote access to University of Ottawa lab apps and computers via installing the VMware Horizon Client app, which is accessible by various operating systems, such as Windows, Linux, Mac, IOS, Android, as well as Chrome OS. Below you will find a step by step guide on how to install and configure the app on Windows.
Step 1 - Begin with enrolling on MFA, after which you will be automatically enabled for your account. Anytime you log into MFA-enabled systems, you will have to confirm your identity.
Step 2 - Download the latest version of the VMware Horizon Client. Do not use the Windows 10 UWP client version.
Step 3 - Click on the “Agree & Install” option and follow instructions. Then, you will need to restart your PC after the installation is done.
Step 4 - Launch the installed VMware Horizon app from the Windows Start menu. Tap on the New Server option to add the portal connection server. This will give you access to apps and lab machines.
Step 5 - Then, enter your name of the studentlabs.uottawa.ca server and tap on the Connect button. After that, enter your University of Ottawa Access credentials, then tap on the Login button to connect. If the system required you to enter the domain, then type “UOTTAWA”.
Step 6 - If you have already completed the MFA enrolment process, right on your MFA-enabled device you will immediately get a sign-in verification request message. Then, you should click on the Approve button located in the Authenticator mobile App.
Step 7 - If you have not yet completed the MFA enrolment process, then you will not be allowed to log in to your StudentLabs.uOttawa portal. In that case, you should enrol at MFA to continue with remote access to University labs.
Step 8 - Once you are connected, you will be able to see the full list of labs and apps which are available to you through the client application portal.
