About ICMS report and coalition

The International Construction Measurement Standards (shortened as ICMS) have offered a single methodology for grouping, reporting, and classifying construction project costs. In response to the industry publication of the 1st edition of ICMS, the ICMS report coalition updated its ICMS report standards to incorporate life cycle costs. The International Construction Measurement Standards 2nd Edition gives its practitioners access to classify project costs within the whole project life cycle to eliminate discrepancies and inconsistencies when comparing, accounting, and predicting ICMS project finances.

The International Construction Measurement Standards Coalition (shortened as ICMSC) is a rapidly growing group of over 40 professional not-for-profit organizations from the whole world, working collaboratively to implement and develop international standards for benchmarking, reporting, and measuring ICMS construction project cost. The ICMSC Standards Setting Committee comprises around 27 independent experts right from 17 countries worldwide. Their states were appointed by the ICMS coalition to draft, produce, and consult the new International Construction Measurement Standards.

What are the ICMS report guides?

The ICMS Explained is a simple user guide intended for the International Construction Measurement Standards. It is a technical document that serves to set out the context, purpose, and philosophy of ICMS work. That practical resource will immediately cost consultants and equip quantity surveyors to deliver financial reports and cost estimates in line with ICMS.

Practitioners of ICMS will find the below-listed guide quite helpful as a reference document to address questions of the ICMS terminology used and how ICMS rules may be applied to a particular project situation. The user guide is also intended to set out how the ICMS is used in practice. It is mainly revealed by illustrating and drawing on some real examples of where it is already used. See below:

  • ICMS User Guide is mainly intended for RICS and other similar professionals to apply the ICMS standards. The guide offers the background, structure, potential use, and content for ICMS, along with multiple appendices that stock further detailed guidance and worked examples.
  • Appendix A Mapping to NRM 1 - It is MS Excel document maps across the NRM 1st cost groups to those presented in ICMS, like a good interface that may be achieved when comparing the company's historic cost classification data.
  • Appendix B Worked Examples is a wide selection of ICMS "live" projects where the presentation of the report cost classification data is drawn in a form that aligns with ICMS and is applied as necessary to suit its local circumstances. Worked Examples consist of examples of projects from Australia, Turkey, and Malaysia.
  • ICMS Linked Excel Templates - It is the blank template that allows ICMS practitioners to finalize a cost report in line with the standard and along with the Excel sheet formulae that are already embedded within.
